The things that happen when you aren't looking...

Ok, so I left them with a project to do so I could finish somethings up in the other room.
This would be mistake number one.

What was I THINKING????? Little girls alone with all these tiny tissue pieces and GLUE??????
See below mistake number two.

Emily says she is the Pinata Monster, do you see it?????

Today is my "1" year Blogoversary!!!
I can't believe how fast a year comes and goes but at least I have documentation of the fun, funny and the things that happen around here.
Stay tuned this coming year for more!

Butterfly or a Woman?

Yesterday, as I was washing dinner dishes, Emily and Amy were playing fairy godmother. Emily was at the kitchen table and said "Mom, I am going to turn you into a butterfly." And presto she did her magic swing of the wand.

I continued to wash dishes for a second and replied "oh, Emily I am such a beautiful butterfly" and then turned to look at her as I stopped washing dishes (leaving the water running). I looked at her and said "now that I am a butterfly I don't have to wash dishes anymore because I have no hands, I am free." Emily quickly replied "oh no Mom, I am turning you back into a woman." I asked "why did you do that," she said "because I am not going to wash the dishes."

How Amy cleans her room

The other day I asked Amy (my 4 year old) to clean her room. She was in there for about 10 minutes and then came running to me saying "I have to show you something fabulous" - a word I use quite often. This is what she showed me:

I guess Amy thinks that if there is nothing on her floor then that means her room is clean. She was pretty proud! I guess I will take what I can get for now.

Our weekend get away

We headed up to Marble Falls early Friday morning. We had so much fun this weekend spending time with family. Emily started by helping Uncle David hang the flag.

Then it was time for some tubing.

And swimming and playing around in the creek.

Look I can swim!

Amy catches her first fish!

Amy just having so much fun!

At least she was having fun until Daddy took her out in the tube.

The girls feeding the ducks.

Emily catches another catfish but didn't want to try to hold it in her hands because it was moving too much - for her.

Our fun weekend had a turn of events Saturday evening. Horse Shoe Bay is across the other side of the creek and instead of them doing their fabulous firework show on Friday the 4th they did it on Saturday the 5th. With out even thinking, around 9:15 the magnificent show began and before we knew it Popcorn our dog on the left took off running because the sound was so loud you would have thought we were being bombed - no kidding.

Emily was scared and a little shaky (from the firework show). She leaned over and said "mom, I feel like there is a hole in my heart" I knew that she was scared. So I had to reassure her that it was ok. All this while knowing that David took off to find Popcorn and when the firework show was over I was going to have to let the girls know.

Emily was very emotional and was crying and kept saying "I don't want her to get run over" and the other thing she kept saying was "what if someone found her and likes her and doesn't want to give her back." So we went inside and said a prayer that Popcorn would be found and be safe and return to us that evening.

After driving around for about 45 minutes David called his good friend to come to the house to see if anyone left a message on our machine about finding Popcorn. And low and behold someone did. So we had popcorn back in our arms by 11:30 that evening. It was so precious because Emily was crying and I said "Emily why are you crying" and she said "mom I am so happy" - evidence of tears of joy!

We thank God for answering our prayers by bringing Popcorn home safe to us that evening! Everyone slept good that night once our heads hit the bed.

This was Amy at 10:00 am this morning while everyone was out on the boat fishing.

Over all this was the best trip yet!

Works For Me Wednesday - Recipes

Today I am participating for the first time in WFMW (Works For Me Wednesday) hosted by Rocks in my dryer.

Today's theme is 5 ingredients or less. If you would like to participate or see all recipes go to Rocks In My Dryer at

Here are some of my favorite recipes:

1 can crescent rolls
1 pound of cooked sausage (cooled and drained from grease)
1 to 2 cups Colby/Monterrey jack grated cheese
5 eggs, beaten
1 can cream of celery soup

Line a 9 x 13 foil pan with crescent rolls, sealing perforations. Cover with sausage and then the cheese. Mix eggs with soup and pour over casserole. Cover and chill overnight in fridge. Bake uncovered at 350 for 50 minutes to an hour.

Note: sausage can be substituted for ham or bacon.

2 small boxes French Vanilla Pudding
3 1/2 cups milk
1 (8 oz) cool whip
2 to 3 packages of Graham Crackers (whole not crushed)
I (16oz) container milk chocolate Duncan Hines frosting

Blend together pudding and milk. Once thickened, fold in cool whip. In a 9x13 dish, cover the bottom with graham crackers. Cover this with half the pudding mixture. Then cover that layer with graham crackers, then pudding and end with graham crackers. Take the top and foil off of icing. Microwave about 30 seconds to a minute. I would stir after 30 seconds and then try another 30 seconds. You want this to be thin enough to pour over entire dessert. Refrigerate overnight.

46 oz Dole pineapple juice
6 oz frozen minute maid orange juice concentrate
2 to 3 liters of gingerale
1 empty bill miller gallon bucket

In a gallon bill miller bucket pour pineapple juice and orange juice concentrate and mix together. Add 1 liter of gingerale slowly (try not to let bubble too much). Stir gently. Freeze overnight.

Pour frozen block in punch bowl 2 hrs before you are ready to serve and pour the other liter of gingerale over the frozen block.

Give a stir before you serve!
*If you want you can add a 3rd liter of gingerale to make it go further.

8 oz cream cheese, softened
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Mix all above together until well blended using a hand mixer. Serve in bowl with apple wedges.

*Sorry I didn't realize until after I posted that this has more than 5 ingredients*

1 cup sugar
½ cup powdered sugar
¼ cup melted butter
1 (10 count tin) canned buttermilk biscuits
3 oz cream cheese, softened to room temp
1 tbs bottled orange peel
1 tbs orange juice concentrate

In small bowl, combine sugar and orange peel. Open and separate biscuits, dip in butter, then coat each biscuit in the sugar mixture. In a greased 9 inch pie plate, lay the coated biscuits in a ring, slightly overlapping the edges. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

In a small bowl, combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar and orange juice to make the icing. Spread the icing over hot biscuits and serve.

Lady and the Tramp

Well Sunday to celebrate Emily's birthday we all loaded up in the car and went to see Wall-e at the movies. The girls really enjoyed it. Then we were off to Macaroni Grill for early dinner. Emily ordered spaghetti but with the sauce and huge meatball on the side (the girls were full of popcorn so I knew that they were not going to eat very much).

So Emily's noodles came out and after a few minutes of eating and talking she looks at her dad and says daddy you are the "Tramp" and I am the "Lady." So then she began to get the longest noodle she could find and there they went, it was as if I was watching the cartoon but only better. The only bad thing is that I didn't have my camera to capture that moment but since Emily had brought home her leftovers she called her dad later that night over to do it again!
